Cool Activities

There are so many fun things kids can do with cool treats like ice cream and soda. Take a look at the list below and try some of these awesome activities out at home!

Milkshake Madness – Making milkshakes is an easy, fun way to create personalized treats. You can either have kids make a big batch to share, or let each child choose his or her own ingredients. Either way, you will want to start with the most obvious ingredient; milk. You will need roughly half a cup of milk per child. Whole, part-skim, fat free, soy, or almond milk all work for this activity. Then, you need to choose your ice cream flavor. Any flavor will work, or you can combine a few favorites. For each shake you want to make, you will need another half cup of ice cream. You can also use frozen yogurt to make your treat. Finally, decide if you want to add any extras. Great additions include fruit, chocolate, caramel syrup, or peanut butter. Then, the last step is to toss it all in the blender and mix it up.

Depending on how old a child is, he or she can do most of the milkshake making process by themselves. An adult will probably want to be on hand to help measure ingredients and prevent spilling. Supervisors may also be needed for operating the blender. While kids of any age can enjoy pushing the buttons and watching the shake mix, younger children may not make sure the lid is firmly in place. Without a secure blender top, a mess is sure to occur.

Make Your Own Soda – Kids can have tons of fun making their own flavors of soda. The process is really simple and requires minimal help from adults. To start, you will want to get some plain club soda. You will also need a way to create yummy flavors. The easiest option is to get some basic flavor syrups at your local grocery market or drink store. You can also find specialty flavors of syrup online or at coffee shops. To make a custom soda, simply mix a little syrup with club soda. You can also add fresh fruit or fruit juice for an added twist. Let kids experiment with flavors, or use a favorite mixture for your child’s next party.

Ice Cream Clowns – Looking for a fun activity for a child’s party or a dull summer afternoon? Instead of making traditional ice cream sundaes, try this instead. Let kids make their ice cream into a clown by turning an ice cream cone upside down. First, place a single big scoop of your child’s favorite ice cream into a small bowl. Then, add small sugar cone to make a clown hat. The rest of the clown’s appearance can be customized by the child. You can use candies, like m&ms or skittles, for the eyes and nose. Licorice makes a great mouth or funny hair. You can also stick a cherry on the tip of the cone hat and decorate the cone itself with syrups for some added flair.

Ice Cream Cookie Bugs – These yummy bugs are tons of fun to make and eat. The critters are actually homemade ice cream sandwiches with legs, eyes, and other fun features. To start, you will need two medium to large sized cookies and any flavor of semi-soft ice cream. You will also want several decorating options available. Licorice or pretzels are good choices for legs. Chocolate syrup is great for adding stripes, and chocolate chips make great spots. You can also use colored icing for the cookies to make a red ladybug or yellow bumble bee. Let kids be creative as they decorate one of the cookies to be the “top” of their bug. The, with some adult assistance, let kids put a scoop of ice cream between their two cookies to make a sandwich. Next, add some legs, eyes, and any other fun features. When you are all finished, eat and enjoy!
