Christmas Cooking Games
Simple Gingerbread Houses – Making gingerbread houses is a wonderful
Christmas activity. It gives children of all ages the chance to be
creative and play with their food. While traditional gingerbread houses
require baking several sheets of gingerbread dough, there is an easier
way to get this craft going without slaving over hours of preparation.
The trick is to substitute graham crackers for the gingerbread. To make
a basic house, you will need seven graham crackers. You can “glue” these
together using regular cake icing. White icing is best because it will
look like snow. Also, the thicker the icing, the better it will hold. If
you find you are having trouble creating a stable foundation, you can
use a small milk carton and attach graham crackers to the box.
Young children will probably need an adult to assemble the house
itself. Once the base is created, though, children are free to decorate
in any way they see fit. You can use pretzels, candy, icing, sprinkles,
and other treats to make the house look festive. The completed house
will last for some time, but remember not to eat the stale treats after
the house has been sitting out.
Snowy Treats- You can make some great snowy treats using melted white
chocolate. The only preparation you will need is to take a sizeable
amount of white baking chocolate and melt it. You can do this easily by
using a double-boiler. However, if you do not have access to such a
tool, your microwave will work as well. Keep in mind that chocolate
melted in the microwave will re-solidify more quickly, though. Another
option is to use a fondue pot for dipping.
Once you have melted the chocolate, you can make treats that look like
they have been out in the snow. Some great options are dipped oreos,
strawberries, and pretzels. You can also top your treats with red and
green sprinkles for a festive look. |
